Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from the girls :)

We are now 178 days from this epic challenge and we are all really starting to feel the pressure of what we have signed up for now.

This morning we started the day off in true West Country style, wind and rain and sleet! Emma Started off at 09:00am at Little Stoke parkrun and then met Vicky at Ashton Court parkrun at 10:30am. Many fellow runners ran 'the double' and a couple of truly inspirational characters, (Emma's husband included!! Anyone would think her attitude to what can be done with a bit of mental will power might just be rubbing off after all this time!), ran the 9 miles between the two 5km runs! The weather was truly horrible, driving rain, sharp sleet and wind that nearly blows you off your feet made for slow and at times thoroughly miserable runs! But we got out and did it, and we will continue to do it as time goes on!

We now have individual Just Giving Fundraising pages, linked together with a team page: http://bit.ly/TeamYMBK so you can donate to one of the team or each of us :) Of course at the end of the day this is all about raising money and support for The National Kidney Federation, so every penny counts!

One of our team resolutions is to update this blog and our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/YouMustBeKidneying a lot more frequently so you can keep up to date with how we are doing... please spread the word, tell your friends, work colleagues and families about what we are doing re post our page, re tweet us and follow us on twitter or facebook, we are a friendly bunch:

All in all, we just want to say happy new year, thank you for the support so far, and anything you can do to help us going forward is so gratefully received :)

Tuesday 3 December 2013

Sorry we have been a little quiet!

Good evening!

Emma here, I didn't realise quite how long it had been since the last blog post! Sorry about that! But lets not dwell! We are into December and well into training season now...

As an additional little challenge to kick start the Marathon training, and to help me get out the door when I should I have decided to take part in the Advent Streak, run at least a mile, every day of December! So far I have clocked up 10 miles in 3 days and I have managed to run on all three days! The last two days I have run before work, which means getting up before 5am to run, this is HARD! and only going to get harder as distances increase and temperatures drop! (I am not a fan of the cold at the best of times!)

But with 89 days till Silverstone half, 124 days till Blackpool marathon and 207 until utter madness... well a girl's gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Strap on a pair and get running!

Weekend of PBs!

What a weekend!

Starting on Friday, Emma had her quarterly check up at Renal clinic, all well good and not needing to be seen until next January :) In other news Mr Thomson her consultant, it turns out is also a keen runner! Running in the Great North run 3 weeks ago - in a much faster time I hasten to add!

On Saturday Vicky ran at Ashton Court Parkrun, and bagged herself a PB! 29:18 :) Well done Vicky!

Also on Saturday Emma ran at Little Stoke Parkrun and also achieved a PB of 28:35 Very pleased with that.

Today, Sunday Emma ran The Cardiff Half Marathon and knocked 24:23 off her Cardiff Half time, and 1:27 off her previous best :) Very happy, very tired Emma tonight!

This picture was taken after the race with fellow competitors (loons) Husband Ian, and friend Matt - When is the next one guys?

2nd October - 269 Days and Counting!

269 - My race number from Southport 10K at the weekend! :)

Today was a mixed bag of training...Poor Annemarie is still out of action following breaking her rib a couple of weeks ago, hoping to back to training in a couple of weeks.

Emma tried to run after work, however because she is utterly scatty, and can't be trusted to remember the huge list of things she needs on a run got caught out AGAIN without her inhaler. Considering this has been an integral part of life for about 20 years, if not longer, you would think she would have got the hang of it by now... check list for running, trainers, Garmin, tunes, inhaler... not difficult!

Also tried a new tactic...a metronome instead of music... hated it! Won't do that again!

Now, Vicky, she had a good training run today! 13.3 miles - Go Team leader!! :) Inspirational running :)

The rest day

A new week, and this starts with a rest day for the team. Emma has a stinking cold following her beachy race yesterday and Vicky is recovering from her 8 miler training run.

Here is a quick snap of Annemarie and Vicky at Ashton Court Park Run over the summer! Go team!

Sunday 29 September 2013

29th September 2013 - 272 Days and counting!

Today has been a good training day!

Vicky went out with The Long Ashton Running group and managed 8 miles at an epic 10.31/mile! well done Vicky!

Emma went off in search of shinies (She does love a medal!!) in Southport with Husband Ian, and ran there very muddy, sandy, windy and sunny beach based 10km! Unofficial time, according to the Garmin is 1:04:17, chuffed to bits with that!

That is Emma and Ian after the race, feeling quite relieved it was over and heading home for a tasty roast!

All in all, a brilliant start!

Oh, and we may well have a 4th team member too...watch this space x

Saturday 28 September 2013

28th November 2013 - 273 days and counting!

We are in!

Vicky has registered the team, and Emma has joined her... at least two of us are going to attempt this challenge Next June! Annemarie should be signing up shortly... :D

Neither of us have completed an Ultra before, and we certainly don't expect to run all the way - However we will run as much as possible and get all the way from Regents Park to Bletchley Park in one go! You can follow our training ups and downs, (I am sure along the way there will be plenty of both), see what other events we are doing as part of our training and see how we are doing with meeting our fund raising target!

Both Emma and Vicky have families effected by Kidney disease, and both have been personally effected themselves. Emma's mum had a transplant in 1986, (Still going strong!), and Vicky watched a co-worker go through receiving a transplant from her own father! The NKF aims to provide Help and Information to both renal patients and their carers . It does this via its website, its telephone Helpline, its advocacy officers, its quarterly magazine Kidney Life, its medical information leaflets and its annual conference. If the provision of renal services is thought to be lacking, then the NKF campaigns to get things changed. The NFK is run by kidney patients for kidney patients and is the largest renal patient charity in the UK.

If you want to know anything else, ask...if you have any tips or suggestions? Please send them over!! :)

And please, feel free to share and promote, we want people to know what we are up to!

Thanks

Em x
